Crofton Carnival History: After a gap of 15 years the carnival was re- introduced in June 2000 to celebrate the new Millennium. Along with a host of events from a candle- lit procession on New Millennium eve to a bonfire in November, the carnival was organised by the Millennium committee. The first carnival, preceded by a colourful parade of groups, schools, church, clubs and individuals was held on the sports field at hare park sidings. Hundreds of people took part making it a great success. When the Millennium committee disbanded in 2001, a new carnival committee was formed from individuals and representatives of village organisations to ensure the continuation of the community event, since then the carnival, now held at the community centre, New Crofton, has been well supported and attended by hundreds of residents.
